An archive for
the endlessly curious.
Science fiction gives us somewhere to ask bigger questions. Galaxy Library helps you find the books that ask yours.
A starting point for discovery
This local edition connects 79,832 source-classified science fiction books to their English editions, author credits, covers, and reader ratings.
The collection is based on the downloaded Open Library snapshot, with checked series corrections and clearly attributed publisher supplements. Source records that need structural or classification review are kept out of the public library. Books without a confirmed English edition are hidden. Series labels and covers come from English editions. Some genre errors may remain.
Details with context
Ratings come from Open Library and use its 1–5 scale. They are reader ratings, not professional reviews. Missing values stay missing.
Page counts, formats, and publisher information belong to a selected edition. When an original publication date is missing, we label the earliest catalogued edition year as an estimate.
How balanced ranking works
Balanced rating is our default discovery order. It combines each book’s Open Library average with its rating count, using 50 reference ratings at the catalogue-wide, rating-weighted average. A small sample stays closer to that average; more ratings give the book’s own average greater weight. Books without valid ratings appear after rated books. Search results prioritise text relevance.
The internal score controls ordering only. The stars you see remain the original Open Library average. You can also choose Most rated, Highest average (raw), publication year or title. A series average combines the available volumes’ ratings, weighted by their rating counts; totals count ratings, not unique readers or written reviews. Unrated volumes are not treated as zero. Series reading order stays unchanged.
Where it goes next
Series discovery is available from English catalogue records, with checked reading orders identified separately. Awards, attributed professional review information, and a curated 200-tag discovery system are planned.
