Where should I start?
Start with We Are Legion (We Are Bob), then follow the numbered sequence. Six books have appeared in audio as of 25 October 2026; other formats can arrive later.
Go to the reading list ↓Dennis E. Taylor begins with Bob Johansson, a man whose preserved consciousness becomes the mind of a space probe. Replication turns one explorer into many. The appeal is not simply that there are more ships: separate experiences give minds with a common starting point room to grow apart.
Read the numbered novels in publication order. The first three make a useful initial reading goal, and the later books continue the setting. There is no need to rebuild the story into one route per Bob. Let the books choose when you move between viewpoints.

A branching cast in one connected universe
This diagram is a reading lens, not a character family tree. It avoids naming later clones or showing which missions succeed. Expand a branch to see what to pay attention to.

ORIGINA human mind, a new form
Bob’s uploaded consciousness gives the series its starting question: what makes someone the same person after their physical form changes? Keep that question beside the engineering problems rather than treating the technology as the whole story.
BRANCHESCopies with separate experiences
Many Bobs can share an origin without sharing a future. Our reading tip: pay attention to the viewpoint name and current goal at each switch. You do not need a complete clone chart before starting.
CONNECTIONSExploration and responsibility
The missions widen the setting beyond the original Bob. When a technical solution seems obvious, ask what it means for the people affected. This is a useful way to follow the human stakes across the changing viewpoints.

Choose a format, keep the same route
Bobiverse has an audio-first publishing history, with Ray Porter narrating the series. The Infinite Extent is the sixth instalment, not a new entry point. Its September 2026 audio release is why older five-book guides are now incomplete. That does not make a later print or ebook date an additional book.
For a first visit, choose the format that makes it easiest to stay with a changing cast. If you like to look back at names, text may suit you. If you enjoy hearing different voices in a continuing narrative, sample the audio. These are reading preferences; neither format requires a different sequence.
The name Bobiverse describes this connected series. It is not an instruction to read every book Taylor has written, and it does not mean each Bob has a separate starter novel. Keep your checklist tied to the six numbered titles here, then branch into other fiction when you want a different story.
A few reader questions
Is there a separate chronological reading order?
There is no need for one in this guide. Follow books one through six. Rearranging chapters around individual Bobs would change the narrative’s timing and is a poor starting point for a new reader.
Why does a retailer show a newer publication date for an early book?
An edition can be new while the story is old. Compare the title and series number, and check the format. Reissued hardcovers should not be placed after later-numbered novels just because their sales date is newer.
Can I use the six-book route for print or ebooks?
Yes as a sequence of titles, but check availability. The newest book’s verified release here is the audiobook. This guide does not promise that every format is on sale in every country.
