Optional Google Analytics

With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand visits and improve the library. Measurements can include the pages you visit, book and series links you follow, guide visits, broad device information and approximate geographic information processed by Google.

We also count catalogue searches and whether they find results. We do not send the words you search for, URL query strings, form contents or your reading-checklist progress. Advertising personalization and Google signals are disabled in this integration.

If you allow analytics, Google may store first-party cookies such as _ga to distinguish visits. We configure a 180-day cookie lifetime. Google processes analytics information under its privacy policy; see how Google uses information from partner sites.

Changing your choice

Your analytics choice is stored in this browser for up to 180 days. Use “Analytics choices” in the footer whenever you want to change it. Rejecting analytics stops this site's measurement and clears its Google Analytics cookies. If tracking was already running, the page reloads to finish turning it off.

Withdrawing permission stops future collection; it does not remove information already received by Google. Choices apply to this browser. If browser storage is unavailable, we may ask again on a later visit.

Reading tools and browser storage

Reading-guide checklists are stored locally in your browser. Homepage discovery uses tab-local storage to avoid immediately repeating the same book. These features work independently of your analytics choice. Their saved values are not uploaded as reading history.

Hosting and cover providers

Our hosting server uses rotating request logs for operation and troubleshooting. These can contain connection details such as an IP address, requested URL and request time. Optional Analytics controls do not turn off the technical requests required to load the website.

Book covers may load directly from Open Library, Penguin Random House or Google Books. Those providers receive the ordinary connection information needed to serve an image. Our cover images use a no-referrer policy. Following an external publisher or retailer link takes you to that provider's website and privacy practices.

Search engine discovery

We notify participating search engines when public pages are added, updated or removed. These notifications contain public page addresses, not visitors’ searches, browsing histories or reading-checklist progress.
